Our Founding Story

Over four years ago, in a conference room at The Firebrand Hotel, Founder, Anderson Rosenthal, with several teammates, spent the day workshopping the idea of a new breed of festival to bring to Whitefish and greater Montana - bringing to life my ambition to someday bridge my network as a producer with my work for environmental and social justice causes.

  • Something that was guided by purpose, maybe a movement as much as it is an event. Film, music, inspiring speakers and subject matter expertise —  real talk.

  • Something to rally community using storytelling as a medium to share new ideas.

  • Something that would showcase real solutions and optimism around the challenges we face as humanity.

  • Something where a diversity of voices are heard.

  • Something that will show us that we actually share more common ground than differences in a nation that feels divided.

  • Something that might have the power to open hearts and minds and bridge the gaps in how we show up as a community around the most pressing issues of our time.

  • Something that makes us fee uplifted and hopeful, inspired and unified.

On March 6-7, 2024 we held our inaugural Solutionist Summit.

On September 26-29, 2024, we presented the Winterland Impact Festival: 46 films, 29  speakers including film panels, keynotes and Ignite Talks, 5 immersive experiences, a Story Village with live podcasting, 6 bands, and 2 performances by solo artists including a Grammy winner and The Native American National artist of the year in 2022 who also co-wrote and performed the title track to Bring Them Home — our opening night film.

On June 11-13, 2026, we will present Westland Impact Festival: over 20 hours of incredible film, numerous keynotes, innovative panels, ignite talks, immersive experiences, and live music throughout each day!

The vision is rooted, the impact is rising!

After an eighteen year career as a commercial producer serving brands like Nike, Alaska Airlines, Mercedes Benz, Kraft, the NBA, Microsoft, CocaCola and others, Rosenthal felt guided to listen more closely to what was keeping her awake at night. The climate crisis and other humanitarian issues led her to launch Project Winterland, a nonprofit rooted in climate solutions and equity.

A fourth generation Montanan, Rosenthal returned to her deep roots in the Flathead to do purpose-fueled work to honor the natural world and bring amplified awareness to the urgent need to protect it. Anderson has served in leadership roles on numerous nonprofit committees and boards, with a focus on the environment and social justice, including the board of Common Ground, The PA Governing Board of Princeton Day School and The Princeton Arts Council.

Larry Bear | Attorney, Screenwriter, Bison Rancher

Larry was born on the Spokane Indian Reservation of North Eastern Washington, and is of the Chippewa, Fox Sioux, and Okanagan Tribes.

He is a practicing attorney whose life's work has been to represent Indian Tribal Governments, Tribal Businesses and Individual Tribal Members. A significant portion of his representation requires extensive historical research into the unique history of the Tribes represented by him.

His first novel, entitled Black Hands in Red Lands, won a novel writing contest judged by Tony Hillerman. Larry was encouraged by an agent at William Morris, to adapt that novel for the screen. Many years later, between practicing law and running one of the largest Bison Cooperatives in North America, he did write that screenplay, and went on to write five more screenplays that have won a total of twelve screenwriting awards since 2018. Larry's primary material involves Native Americans in historical settings but has two contemporary scripts ready for production as well. Larry's best-told stories demonstrate the unexpected consequences achieved by people who overcome adversity.
